THE BRISTOL TO BORDEAUX CHALLENGE

PROPS CC was founded in February 2014 by a small group of enthusiastic cyclists who have been involved with the annual Bristol to Bordeaux charity cycle ride for many years. This challenging ride is one of the largest fund raising events of the year for PROPS, a charity based in Fishponds Bristol, which works with and supports young adults with learning disabilities. Through PROPS, students are able to access training, education and work related programmes. One of the underlining philosophies of PROPS is to be as inclusive as possible. We believe that everybody should have the opportunity to participate in a rich and fulfilling life regardless of ability.

The Bristol to Bordeaux Cycle Challenge is a 4 day event starting in Temple Quay in Bristol on Wednesday 6th July 2016 and finishing in Bordeaux on Saturday 9th July 2016.
Riders can choose between a 300 mile ‘Classic’ ride (roughly 80 miles per day) and a
500 mile ‘Extreme’ (125 miles per day) version.
Over the years the ‘Extreme’ route has become a popular choice, but make no mistake, the Classic presents a true challenge for the occasional cyclist and particularly those returning to the sport after a few years!
Wherever possible the route uses quieter ‘rural’ roads. Where unavoidable, A-roads are used at certain points along the route, but these sections are kept to the absolute minimum.
The ride is fully supported, with water/food stops located every 20 miles or so, so riders are required to carry nothing more than a couple of water bottles and the odd energy bar.
All bags are carried on one of our minibuses and are transported from hotel to hotel. They will be waiting for you each evening when you reach the hotel.
Your main bag will not be accessible during the day, so we advise all riders to have a ‘day bag’ for things they may need access to prior to reaching the hotel. (Waterpoofs, spare clothing etc.)
We have a trained physio on the ride for all the various aches and strains which afflict our riders and we also have bike mechanics to help with any mechanical issues which may befall your bike.
We do carry a certain amount of spares. However, riders are advised to bring enough inner tubes for the ride and to ensure they know how to fix a puncture (or ride with someone who does! ;-)
