WELCOME TO PROPS CYCLING CLUB

About Us

PROPS Cycling Club was founded in February 2014 by a small group of enthusiastic cyclists who have been involved with the annual Bristol to Bordeaux charity cycle ride for many years. This challenging ride is one of the largest fund raising events of the year for PROPS, a charity based in Fishponds Bristol, which works with and supports young adults with learning disabilities. Through PROPS, students are able to access training, education and work related programmes. One of the underlining philosophies of PROPS is to be as inclusive as possible. We believe that everybody should have the opportunity to participate in a rich and fulfilling life regardless of ability.

PROPS CC tries to follow a similar philosophy of inclusiveness.

Our Aims

  1. First and foremost we want to enjoy the many and varied forms of cycling.  As a member of the club you will have the opportunity to participate in:

    • Road cycling through relaxed club runs, more specific training rides and competitive events.

    • Weekly club runs alternating between The Swan Pub, Almondsbury and The Lockside Café, Ashton, Bristol.

    • Regular track sessions at Wales National Velodrome in Newport.

    • Mountain bike sessions throughout the South West and Wales.

    • Participation in the Pedal 4 PROPS Bristol to Bordeaux challenge and other cycling excursions in the UK and Europe.

  2. Underlying everything we do as a club is the premise that we are as inclusive as possible. All cyclists, regardless of ability, experience or fitness levels are welcome to the club.  The cycling sessions we design are planned so that all our members can participate fully. The main way we try to accomplish this is to run different paced groups on our weekly club rides. One group cycles at an average of 10 mph and whilst other groups cycle at 15 – 18 mph. On the last Sunday of each month we also run a session for our junior and family members of the club. This group covers 20 – 25 miles at about 10mph with a stop for cake and coffee. On several events throughout the year we are joined by some of the students from PROPS.

  3.  Finally, PROPS depends on financial donations to continue the fantastic training and educational programmes they have created. With this in mind, any profits we make as a club goes towards developing and supporting student cycling activities.  This may take the form of funding a student to take part in the Bristol to Bordeaux Challenge or buying a new adapted bicycle to add to our fleet.
