VELODROME

What's involved

We are very fortunate to have one of the best indoor cycling facilities in the country less than 25 miles from Bristol. The Wales National Velodrome in Newport is one of only a handful in the country and we aim to run several sessions on the track for club members each year. It is a great opportunity to experience track cycling in an accessible and relaxed environment, it's not only a good workout it will help to improve your bike handling skills, situational awareness and group riding abilities.

These sessions are suitable for riders both new to the track and those who have ridden on it many times before.

The cost of each session is approximately £30 depending on numbers and session length.

For this riders receive:

  • Exclusive use of the track for the duration of the session (usually 2 hours).

  • A qualified track coach who supervises the session.

  • A track bike supplied by Newport Velodrome

Each session is limited to only 15 riders and places book up very quickly. Priority is given to club members and you can find dates for the next Velodrome sessions on the calendar page of this website.

What you'll need

  • A helmet

  • Gloves

  • Drinks and food (energy gels/general cycling fuel)

  • Appropriate cycling clothing (nothing too baggy, what you would normally wear for a ride)

  • Toiletries & a towel if you wish to use the showers on site

Useful info

The bikes at the Velodrome have Look KEO cleats so if you normally use these pedals you can use your normal cycling shoes. Otherwise you can use normal trainers with the toeclips provided.

Please arrive at 5:45pm or earlier to ensure you are registered, paid up and changed to ride. Any time missed at the start due a late arrival cannot be recouped.

It's in Newport? How do I get there?

People normally travel under their own steam but we can often help to co-ordinate lift sharing if required.
